About

About me

As I grew older, I become more passionate about writing. Creating compelling narratives that integrate life experience, poignant moments, indignation and hopes for a better world… bring thoughts to life. In my writing, I aim to depict  the fullness of human experience, including life’s pain, humour, wonder and absurdity. I am inspired by love, travel, personal and political resistance and emancipation. A picture is worth a thousand words. Each of these words invites interpretation and entry into a new world. Welcome to my writing and to my website!

My name: Catherine (Cathy) Richardson Kinewesquao

My formal name, given by my parents at birth, is Catherine.  I use this name in the public realm.  People who know me personally tend to call me Cathy.  Kinewesquao is my Cree/Indigenous spiritual name, given to me in a sundance ceremony.  This name I use when interacting with Indigenous folks, when in ceremony and when I want to assert my presence as an Indigenous woman in Canada.  I am a member of the Métis Nation, with Red River ancestry as well as Cree and Gwich’in ancestors.  All my relations!
